About Dr. Ayers
Amanda Ayers, MD, FACS, has been part of Colon and Rectal Surgeons of Greater Hartford since 2010 and sees patients in the Bloomfield and South Windsor offices. She sees a wide range of colon and rectal surgical problems including: colon and rectal cancer, diverticulitis, accidental bowel leakage, hemorrhoids and other anorectal problems. She is board certified in both General and Colon and Rectal Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She has faculty appointments at both the University of Connecticut School of Medicine as well as at the Frank Netter School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University.
Dr. Ayers started on her path as a surgeon by earning her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Ayers went on to pursue her medical degree and residency at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington. She then went on to complete her Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship in Manhattan at Cornell and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 2010.
Dr. Ayers serves on several committees including the Cancer Committees for both St Francis Hospital and Eastern Connecticut Health Network (ECHN); she is the Cancer Liaison Physician for ECHN and serves as the Rectal Cancer Program Director at St Francis Hospital. She has also previously served as the State Chair of the Cancer Liaison Physicians.
Dr. Ayers is dedicated to ensuring the highest quality of care for her patients. For that reasons, she has trained in advanced techniques such as robotic surgery, advanced laparoscopy and advanced endoscopy, high resolution anoscopy for screening and surveillance of anal cancer as well as the current techinques for management of accidental bowel leakage.
